Southwestern Vase

One of my earliest turnings, this vase is made of 191 separate pieces of wood, glued up to make the pattern you see here.
Made of Cherry, Walnut, Maple and Padauk, this vase measures:
8 inches tall by 7 inches wide

Veneered checker board is glued up based on CAD drawing

Cut the checker board diagonally and then miter to 15 degrees

Ready for glue up

Mitered pieces are glued

Ring is glued in press

Inside of the ring is then turned

Outside is turned after final glue up

Finish is applied while still on the lathe

After reverse mounting,
the bottom is turned and finished.
